Summer can be a tricky time for your water bill. You need to stay hydrated, keep cool, and fill up an excessive number of water balloons (for science, of course).
But the last thing you want to worry about when you’re having fun in the sun is how high your water bill will be.
Fortunately, there are a few ways you can help keep your bill low without missing out on a serious water gun fight.
Check for toilet leaks using food coloring
Unless you take hour-long showers, the toilet is the most common source of a high water bill. In fact, you can lose hundreds of gallons of water in a single month if your toilet has a leaky gasket.
So how do you know if your toilet’s leaking? The answer to that is food coloring.
Pick a color (usually red, green, or blue) and drop it into the toilet tank. Let the water sit for at least 30 minutes. Don’t flush the toilet.
Once the time is up, check your toilet bowl. If the water is tinted by the dye in the tank, this means you have a slow leak to worry about and that it’s time to replace your toilet flapper.
Don’t leave dripping pipes alone
On the top of leaks, don’t let a slow-dripping pipe fool you. Even a small drip can cost you a lot of money over time. Screw hose clamps come in handy in this situation.
Screw hose clamps are commonly used for temporary fixes to damaged pipes. Consider fitting a screw hose clamp to your leaking pipe until a plumber has the chance to look at it.
Let your garbage disposal rest
Summer is a time of barbeques and family fun. But don’t run your garbage disposal every time you have food scraps.
Many garbage disposals require running water for 30 seconds or more to help the disposal flush the food waste. This can waste a lot of water if you’re not careful.
Consider only using your garbage disposal at certain times during the day so you’re not wasting a large amount of water. Or consider composting at home rather than using the disposal.
There are different types of hose clamps for a variety of situations. Whether you need embossed clamps or stainless steel hose clamps, Hose Clamp Kings has what you’re looking for. For more information on our embossed clamps and hose clips, contact Hose Clamp Kings today.
